Hello - I am trying to gamify a large instruction/implementation. Teaching both students and instructors (higher ed) to truly use (not just click on a link and participate) in a video conferencing platform. Share screens, use whiteboard, etc. I started to integrate SCVNGR, but then thought the technology might get in the way of the instruction. I would definitely like to award a digital badge at the end, as there needs to be proof of certification (do not want a grade.) How would you do this? Meet another student online, show them your screen, take a picture or screenshot, submit it - ?? They need to be very proficient. Ideas would be MUCH appreciated! |

Hi GamerEDU, Gamification is more than just adding badges and points. The goal of the whole thing is engagement, isn't it? So, what about having to answer questions about the just heard video-information before the video is going to play further? Of course this needs some implementation of software. You want to change the behavior of your users to use this platform. So, it's important to make it easy and "sexy" to use your differnet tools (whiteboard, screen-share, and so on). It's about increasing the 'trigger' and the ability to start using these. Of course points and badges are great additional possibilities to reward and to give a fast and direct feedback to the useres that motivate them further to participate. Another important part (and this is where the intrinsic motivation comes in) is the possibility of games to make 'mastering' fun. Let the users know when thy have something 'learned' or 'improved'. That's possible by using comments and evaluation of content by others. So, use badges, points and leaderboards just as feedback tools. For being effective in the long run, using the tools have to be implemented in the 'architecture' of the process. If you have some more particular question don't hesitate to ask :-) Roman |
