Hi

I am doing research into Gamification conferences, and would really appreciate your help?

  • What Topics Should a conference cover?
  • Where is the best area to hold a Gamification Conference (USA East Coast, USA west coast, Europe, Asia?)
  • What Speakers /Vendors should be present?
  • Anything else you want to add?

Any feedback would be much appreciated Thanks AJ

A Gamification Conference should give a lot of own gamification experiences, because the theory is the one, but to feel, what really dos happen with me, when I come in a gamified space, is a fully other thing. So maybe you could gamify your gamification conference with a wide range of game mechanics.

Topics:

  1. Gamification knowledge by experts like Jesse Schell, Jane McGonigal, Gabe Zichermann, Nathan Lands, and so on.

  2. Presentations and experiences from best practice cases like Nike+, Foldit, foursquare, Health Month, SuperBetter, scvngr, and so on.

  3. Great approaches to implement Gamification within different sectors like Education, Sport, TV, Human Resource, ...

  4. Interactive Presentations about different game mechanics.

  5. Eventually a presentation from board game designers to learn from their experience outside the online world.

  6. Presentations about technology that helps to boost gamification in the real world like augmented reality, QR Codes, Mobile-Apps, Tracking-technology,...

  7. Presentation about the downside of gamification and experiences how to take them.

  8. Presentation of some new start-ups that are implementing gamification or developing gamification.

  9. Very interesting would be also some knowledge about game-psychology and experiences about gaming behavior from different cultures. Some are more competitive than others; some are less socializing than others. (We are just creating a gamification project for an arabic country. Here's the problem that it would be negative if a man looses against a woman ;-) )

  10. Different approaches of gamification: 1. Creating a game for a core piece of content or 2. using game elements to make an activity or content more engaging. (We call this 1. gamification and 2. motivational design ;-) )

Where to hold a conference? I think the US would be the "easiest" way because of all the experts and the leading status of the gamification-industry within the US. On the other side there have been already some summits or symposia about this kind of subject.

I think that Europe would be the most interesting because this area is "almost unworked" here and especially Germany will be one of the most interesting and valuable countries for the longterm once this subject is well-known here. (We would love to partner with someone who is going to hold a gamification symposium here in Germany as we want to hold one by ourselves.)

Hope that there are some suggestions you can use :-) Bye Roman Rackwitz (engaginglab.com)
