Hello everybody,

I am going to write my Masterthesis about the effects, Gamification can have to change consumers attitude towards certain brands. Therefore I would like to conduct an experiment where gamification is applied in a branded context. First the consumers brand perception will be measured. Then the gamified activity will be carried out a couple of times during one week and later on the brand perception shall be measured again.

The crucial question: What could be gamified to condut this experiment? I have no restriction towards brands or activities, as long it is easy to conduct.

Are there any other proposals to measure how Gamification can influence consumers brand attitude?

Thank you very much in advance!!!

Michael

Hi Mike, first of all I would recommend to gamify something that everyone of us is already considering of 'being boring'. That would support the idea of gamification if you get a positive outcome (and I'm sure you will ;-) ). So, what about gamifying education. I think this will be a good branch anyway. First of all, everyone of us knows that school (often) wasn't fun. And normally we think that that's the way education works. It even is supposed to be boring. Second, there are already some great approaches for gamifying education. For example Lee Sheldon, Indiana University, who gamified its classroom. You can read a lot about it here: http://gamingtheclassroom.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/mentions-of-lees-game-design-class/

Or another approach of improving education is the Khan academy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM95HHI4gLk

His approach combined with a good gamification strategy will be awesome. I think actually he is testing his concept at a High School in Palo Alto.

Hope that this suggestion can help you a little bit. Hope my english is not to bad ;-) Good luck, Roman

Hi Roman!

thanks a lot for the reply! Looking for something boring is defenitely a good starting point. So the branded context could be established for brands in education business.

Does anyone have another idea for gamifying the experiment related to consumer goods?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike, right the branded context could be established for brands in education business OR you're getting in touch with a copany that is interested in finding "high potentials" right after finishing their studies. I'm talking about some kind of 'parallel game' during their time on university. Achieving points and levels by solving questions, problems and more that are being asked by this company but at the same time are oriented at the level of knowledge of the students.

During this "game" the company get to know all the player very well concerning their knowledge and about their skills and the students on the other side get to know the company, its culture and exactly what they are doing. Would be one of the best recruiting systems, wouldn't it?

If you want I can give you some more information about that. We already draw this kind of concept for a big stock market company.
