I've seen topics about gamification on schools and such, but what about if your personal life? Inside the family? First of all, would you gamify your child (children) education inside your house?

Sometimes you see them angry because they don't want to do something. At the same time, you would have to be careful with the awards (candies all the time can be harmful).

So, would you gamify? If so, how?

We currently building a Knowledge Inventory Game for communities because university degrees are too expensive, static, and not always applicable to the tasks required.

There may be some similarities when applied to children - especially since I have a 4 year old who inspires much of our thinking at Ingenesist.

The analogy that comes to mind is the cub scouts where badges are earned and displayed publicly in uniform for achievements acquired. However, If you increase the number of possible achievements to include a much wider knowledge landscape, it will likely include those things that naturally interest the child. As such, they will gain a relevant and enjoyable knowledge set while also becoming unique among their peers (rather than competitive). For example, with a large selection, it is unlikely that another person will have the exact same knowledge assets. The constraint (item of scarcity) is Time to uniqueness rather than leader board of those who comply with a set regimen.

The next step is to find a practical use for the knowledge assets. If the knowledge assets can be owned in, say, a geographical area; that is, only three are available in a certain knowledge domain, a new dynamic will form. Either the the player will seek an alternate knowledge asset or they will force an expansion of the knowledge domain. I.e., "photography" is expanded into "still-life", Action, Low-light, Portraits, etc. As such, those who pursue "photography" domain can now form a cooperative with those owning the sub domains. The game gets richer in the field of photography.

In any case, social value is created as each person interfaces with others in the domains that they need.
