New book on the "gaming the classroom" just came out this month. Very innovative approach to teaching undergraduates, I think.

I'd recommend Game-based Marketing, Game Frame and Engaging Learning and of courses googling will reveal some great videos on YouTube and other content.

As a starter on the importance and impact of games and game mechanics on everyone, I'd recommend Reality is Broken by Jane McGonigal, which is in the wikipedia list above. And if you haven't seen her presentation on how to use gaming to make a better world, you're missing a treat. Have a look: http://www.ted.com/talks/jane_mcgonigal_gaming_can_make_a_better_world.html

Very quotable as well by the way, I've used quotes from her on multiple presentations.
